How Dry, Wet, Cold Weather & Flooding Affects Pests

Most people are aware that the temperatures outside will affect the types of pests you may see. There is a change in pests just like there is a change in seasons. One myth is that the cold temperatures send pests into hibernation and they are no longer an issue. That is just not true and there are many types of pests that continue to get in homes and infest houses even when it is cold. You can find spiders and rodents to name a couple. When the weather is too cold it will chase them in looking for a place to nest. There are other weather conditions that don’t necessarily have to do with the degrees but more the atmosphere. These different conditions can cause the pests around your home to act much differently.

Eagle Pest Services Explains How Weather Conditions Can Change the Types of Pests You Will See

Flooding is an Issue for Pests: When you live in an area that has flooding throughout the year, you may notice a change in the pests. Flooding can occur during different seasons and no matter the season the pests will normally act the same. The flooding means that there is an abundance of water which will usually not be good for most pests. The pest that is able to use the flooding as a benefit for themselves is the ant. Ants will basically use the water to help them travel from one place to the next quite quickly. They can stay on top of the water and form a kind of raft. Unfortunately, when they come across your home, they have often found a great place that has shelter and food until the weather outside dries.

Rainy Season Weather is Great for Flying Insects & Other Pests: When you talk about flooding that amount of water is not great for pests. When the weather brings on some moisture and rain it is a great thing. Pests need to have moisture to live and that means that a nice rain or good amount of moisture can put them in a reproductive state. They are going to reproduce much faster and that means there will be more pests than there was before. The wet weather will bring on more pests which all need to find food to eat. That is why people tend to see more pest infestation in their homes when it is raining outside.

Ants & Other Pests Come Inside When it's Hot & Dry Outside: Like mentioned before pests need moisture and water to live. When the weather is extremely dry and there is little moisture to be found, pests will start to go a little crazy. The pests will need to get to a place they are able to find moisture and they can easily become more frantic in their search. That is why there is not a season or type of weather that is a good time to cut back on your pest control services. You need to continue all year long.
