Natural Ways to Keep Ants Out of Your Home this Winter

Lemon Juice Discourages Ants

The acidity in lemon juice will break down the trail that ants are using to travel. If you pay attention to the areas that you have noticed ants meandering into your home, apply lemon juice in these areas and it will discourage them from coming in there again. Pay attention to windowsills, doorways and baseboards.

 

Cinnamon Oil Spray for Ants

The spicy smell of cinnamon isn’t something that ants like. There are a couple ways to use cinnamon to deter ant activity. You can sprinkle ground cinnamon in areas that you have seen ants. If that is too messy, you can simply set cinnamon sticks in those same areas. Lastly, cinnamon oil works just as effectively when put on a cotton swab and rubbed on surfaces where ants have been.

 

What Happens when Ants Eat Cornmeal?

Cornmeal is something that will actually attract ants. The thing about cornmeal is that ants don’t have the ability to digest it. They eat it and then it expands and they end up dying. Place a small amount of cornmeal near the openings that ants are using to make their way into your home and they won’t make it much further.

 

Vinegar Deters Ants

This miracle household cleaner will also keep ants away from your home. They don’t like the pungent smell of vinegar. Mix a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water; than spritz the solution in problem areas to keep ants from coming in through those openings anymore. You can clean and deodorize your home all while repelling pests: win, win.
