Ants in Your House Keep Coming Back?

One of the common disruptive pests that the majority of the country’s population has had experience with is ants.  They are also one of the more difficult pests to exterminate on your own.  You see all the ants traversing the countertops. You start squishing the ants you see or pull out your handy home bug spray and think the problem is rectified; only to find another group hours later. Without effective pest control, the ants will continue to invade your kitchen and home.  More often than not, the ants have infiltrated your home scavenging for food, but no matter why they come in, they definitely need to go. Eagle Pest Control would like share some tips on how you can utilize natural methods to prevent the ants from invading your sanctuary.

How to Prevent & Get Rid of Ants Naturally from Your Home

1) Remove Food Sources. Ants are always looking for food. If none can be found they will move on from that area.  Diligently cleaning up food, crumbs, spills, and other such ant delicacies every time a meal or snack is prepared can leave them with nothing. Wherever food is eaten and prepared, be sure the scraps are cleaned up from all surfaces including the floor on a daily basis; after every meal is even more optimal. Keep all food, ingredients and spices properly sealed in air tight containers. Any containers where sticky residue might occur, do a quick and thorough wiped down. Toothpaste and deodorants often have fragrances that attract ants. Make certain these containers are well sealed in between use.
2) Pest Proof Home; Repair & Seal. Evaluate the condition of your home, but first focus on the kitchen, both inside and outside. Using silicone caulk, putty, glue or plaster accordingly, seal up any cracks and holes that might look like a welcoming door for little ants. If you already have ants, back track the line to see how they are getting in and be sure to make the needed repairs.   You can temporarily seal it with petroleum jelly or poster tack until you are able to get to a home improvement store or ask a professional. The temporary fix will only buy you a short time period as it will deteriorate quickly.
3) Soapy Water Mixture Ant Exterminator. A soapy water solution, and for extra potency include mint oil or citrus peeling, can naturally exterminate any existing ants you may already have in your kitchen and home.
4) Natural Ant Food and Bait Traps. Some food products that can be used in ant control are corn meal, raw cream of wheat, and coffee grounds which are highly effective and is a safer method for homes that have children or pets. Simply put your choice in the area you know ants are already foraging for food.
